Margo Green is a graduate student, who is working on her dissertation at the Museum of Natural History. Her father's recent death is forcing her to make the decision between continuing her education in New York or returning home to take over the family business.

As she struggles with her decision, she becomes aware of the murders in the museum and begins some minor investigations of her own. With Dr. Frock's help, Margo discovers the creature is attracted to the packing materials in the cargo that was sent to the museum from the Amazon. Margo also learns what the creature looks like and how powerful it might be. In the end, Margo plays a major part in destroying the creature before it takes a large number of lives.
