Who is Margaret Hauptmann Hughes from Broken for You and what is their importance?

Margaret Hauptmann Hughes is a wealthy Seatlle divorcee. She lives in a large mansion that overlooks the city. Margaret shuns intimacy, preferring to interact with the objects in her large collection of figurines and antiques which were inherited from her father, Oscar Hauptmann.

Once a happy woman, Margaret's life was turned upside down due to a failed marriage, and more importantly the death of her beloved son in a car accident. After her son's death, Margaret retreated into a world of her own in which expensive soup tureens and delicate porcelain figurines became her only friends. Her dead mother haunts the mansion, reminding Margaret of just how small Margaret's life has become. When Margaret learns that she has a brain tumor, she decides to turn her life around and begin living.
