Who is Manuel Castells from The City Reader and what is their importance?

Manuel Castells is a Spaniard. He was educated in France and currently teaches at Berkeley. He also works with the Spanish government. Two of Castell's articles appear in this anthology: The Reconstruction of Social Meaning in the Space of Flows, and Technopoles, an article he co-wrote with Peter Hall.
