Luke Brandon, a self-made man, is a bit of an enigma in the novel. Though he is not featured much, it is clear that he is important to Becky. The owner of Brandon Communications, Luke is the public relations representative for many different financial firms, so he and Becky run into each other from time to time. The first time Brandon and Becky meet in the novel it is clear to the reader that there is an attraction between the two. As the situation is seen through the eyes of Becky, the reader only has her opinion of the meeting. Becky seems to both admire and detest Luke at the same time. Luke, in return, seems to like Becky, and pay her a bit more attention than others.
