Monty meets Lomitas in 1991, and he describes their meeting as one of the defining moments in his life. Lomitas is owned by a German man, and he is the highest ranking two year old in Germany. Monty describes Lomitas as a "good looking chestnut colt." Lomitas is later poisoned in a blackmailing scheme, and though he lives, he is no longer able to race.
