Monty meets Lomitas in 1991, and he notes their meeting as a feining moment in his life. Lomitas is owned by a German man and holds the title of the highest rated two year old in Germany in 1990. Monty describes the horse as a "good looking chestnut colt." He believes that Lomitas has extraordinary intelligence and talent. Unfortunately, Lomitas' owner is blackmailed early in his career, and the blackmailer poisons Lomitas. Lomitas survives the poisoning but is no longer able to race.
