Lieutenant Koina is a Kenyan rebel. He fights with Kihika in the forest. Koina was a cook during World War II, and he had a difficult time finding work when the war ended. He later becomes a houseboy for Dr. Lynd. Although, Koina initially likes Lynd's dog, he becomes resentful when he sees how much better the dog of a white woman lives than many black people. He ties up Dr. Lynd and kills her dog in front of her, after which, he steals her guns and runs away with the rebels.
