Dino Bacchetti, a Lieutenant for the NYPD, is Stone Barrington's former partner. Dino is the commander of the detective division at the Nineteenth Precinct and it is clear that Dino loves his job. Dino is good-natured, if somewhat moody at times. A first-generation American, Dino's sensibilities could definitely be described as blue collar. At this point in time, he has a successful career on the police force and is enjoying the fruits of his labor. Dino is married to Mary Ann and the couple has a 4-year-old son named Angelo. Since his father-in-law, Enrico Bianchi, is a known gangster, Dino makes certain that everything he does (professionally, anyway) is completely above suspicion. During the course of the novel, Dino remarks more than once that there are people in high places who are looking for any reason to come down hard on police officers who do not follow the rules.
