Leila Park is Henry's wife. When we first meet Leila, she is leaving her husband for an indefinite period of time. Henry, on the other hand, is feeling a great deal of pain over their separation.
Leila and Henry met while she was working for a relief agency, and the couple immediately experiences both a physical and intellectual attraction. Leila is bright, amiable, and like Henry, has a subtle, dry, sense of humor.
Over the course of the novel, we learn that Leila has an affair during their separation. When she returns, however, she is presented as a warm, loyal, and supportive partner, who shows genuine care and patience with her husband.
