Who is Leddy from The Dark-Thirty: Southern Tales of the Supernatural and what is their importance?

Leddy appears in the story, Boo Mama, She is a young civil rights activist, who has lost her husband, and who loses her will to keep fighting after Robert Kennedy is assassinated. Feeling completely hopeless, Leddy decides to go offf the grid and move into a house in the mountains of Tennessee. Over time, her son wanders way into the mountains and is lost. Leddy later discovers that her son was saved by a group of Sasquatch, who he must return to because he is becoming physically one of them. Leddy chooses to join him.
