Law enforcement appears in many forms throughout the book. Some are New Jersey State Troopers, who give each other the Nazi salute. Others are FBI agents and other members of the police force who use divide-and-conquer tactics to cause dissent in various black liberation organizations. Still, others are judges and lawyers who are often openly biased and want to see Assata and other revolutionaries behind bars, convicted of crimes whether they committed them or not.
