Laertes appears in Shakespeare's, Hamlet. He is Ophelia's brother and Polonius's son. At the urging of Hamlet's wicked uncle, Laertes fights a duel with Hamlet, dishonorably using a sword that has been dipped in poison. During the fight, the swords are exchanged, leading to the deaths of both participants. Laertes and Hamlet both die from the poisoned sword. Before dying, Laertes confesses his part Claudius' treacherous plan to kill Hamlet.
