Laertes is Ophelia's brother and Polonius's son. He and Hamlet fight a duel instigated by Claudius. Laertes dishonorably dips his sword in poison, but a switch of the swords during the fight leaves both men mortally wounded. Laertes confesses his part in the treachery before dying.
