Who is Kotchikpa from Say You're One of Them and what is their importance?

Kotchikpa serves as the narrator in the story "Fattening for Gabon." He is ten-years-old and naïve. When he realizes that both he and his sister are going to be sold into slavery, he successfully befriends and manipulates the guards, which in turn, allows him to escape. Sadly, he is forced to leave his five-year-old sister behind.
