Klara Blocker is Hanna's family maid. She is hired to look after Hanna and take care of the house, so Hanna's mother can concentrate on her art. Klara was nineteen when the war came to an end, and during the final months of the war, Burgdorf was occupied by the American, who lived in Klara's building. Klara became involved with one of the soldiers, and later gave birth to his son out of wedlock. She never married and continued to dream of her American soldier even after he returned to his American wife.
