Mumbi's brother, Kihika, is a natural rebel. He embraces the Movement, he is religious, and he compares the struggle in Kenya to the Jews in Egypt. He believes in sacrifice and unity, and he tries to get Mugo to join the rebels and build an underground movement in the town. Mugo, however, wants to be left alone and turns in Kihika to the authorities. Kihika is later caught and hung, making him a martyr for the Movement.
