Kenneth Fleming grew up on the Isle of Dogs. He is descirbed as a brilliant student, who sacrificed his opportunity at higher education in order to marry the young woman he impregnated and care for their child..... in other words, he did the right thing. Mrs. Whitelaw, his teacher, attempted to talk him out of marriage, and when he refused, she met with his young girlfriend. In the end, however, Kenneth chose to marry Jean and raise the child he'd fathered.
