Julia Deming Gordon is Johnny's wife and Anne's daughter-in-law. Over the course of the story, we come to see that Julia has little interest in men and doesn't respond to the intimate side of their relationship. Her attraction to Johnny's little sister, Binny, is also inferred. Julia and Johnny have one son. She later divorces Johnny and remarries a much older man, who apparently has no sexual capacity remaining.
