Who is Jonathan Beltzer from One True Thing and what is their importance?

Jonathan Beltzer is Ellen's boyfriend. The couple met in an AP English class. Jonathan is a law student, who is described as "good looking in an odd way". Ironically, Jonathan is the one who turns Ellen into the district attorney, claiming that Ellen wanted to kill her mother. His actions, unfortunately, were a direct result of Ellen breaking up with him. Jonathan hopes that his involvement in Ellen's case will open doors for his law career in the future.
