Who is John from Faithfull and what is their importance?

John Dunbar was Marianne's first love. When she met John, he was in his first year at Cambridge university, and she describes him as being the hippest and the coolest. John's mother was Russian, and his parents were filmmakers.

John and Marianne got married, and the couple had a son named Nicholas. Their relationship, however, fell apart after Marianne became involved with the Rolling Stones. Marianne took her son and left her husband, promptly moving in with Mick Jagger. John tried to get her to come back to him several time, but he eventually gave up and filed for divorce. He also won custody of their son.
