John Adams (1735-1826) was was the first vice president of the United States, and the second president. He was also one of the most influential of the Founding Fathers, and a major contributor to the drafting of the Declaration of Independence. It was during this period that Adams and Jefferson met. The correspondence between these two men is the focus of the novel.
