Who is Jim Hardwick from Carver: A Life in Poems and what is their importance?

Jim Hardwick is the first of Carver's Boys. Hardwick sees Carver as both a mentor and a friends. Their friendship, however, is also very important to Carver because Hardwick restores his faith in white people.
