Jessie Rideau is another local prostitute working in and around New Iberia Parish. Rideau claims that she can positively identify Harpo Scruggs as one of the men who kidnapped and subsequently killed Jack Flynn. Rideau is in fear for her life. Jessie has turquoise eyes. Her wavy hair is copper-colored and she has "brown skin and freckles like a spray of dull pennies on her face and neck" (pg. 359.) When Robicheaux meets Jessie Rideau face-to-face at St. Peter's Cemetery, he comments on her wide shoulders and "breasts like watermelons" (pg. 359.) Also, there is something about Jessie which indicates that "she had no means of defending herself against the world" (pg. 359.) Jessie's fears are realized when she is later killed by Harpo Scruggs.
