Who is Jerusha Bent from Charley Skedaddle and what is their importance?

Jerusha Bent, better known as Granny Bent, is a healer and midwife in the Blue Mountains. She is rumored to know how to cast spells and rejected by a number of people in the community because they believe she is a witch. Granny takes Charlie in and hides him from the patrollers, who are out looking for deserters. She also gives him the knowledge and encouragement he needs to right his wrong.
