Who is Jenny from Chains and what is their importance?

Jenny owns a tavern in Rhode Island. She attempts to purchase Isabel and Ruth in order to keep them from being sold back into slavery. Jenny came to America as an indentured servant alongside their mother and wanted to help them as a way of honoring her friend. In the end, Jenny does not have enough money to purchase the girls and loses them in a bidding war with the Locktons.
