Jennie Bradford is Maggie's daughter. Jennie is only three when Maggie hides under the porch to stop her first husband from beating the two of them to death. Philip, Maggie's husband, finds them and fires a shot at them with his gun. Maggie retaliates with three shots of her own, killing Philip. Due to the fact that Jennie is badly beaten when the police find them, Maggie's story of domestic violence is believed and Maggie is not charged with Philip's murder.
