James S. Huntington was Sidney's father. He traveled to Alaska from New York during the gold rush. Often ill, James worked as a trapper and mail sled driver, but was a prospector in his heart. Huntington died after an eleven foot hole he dug flooded with water...... he never knew that he was mere feet away from discovering a treasure trove of gold.
