James Fenton was an English poet and Oxford professor of poetry. Born in 1948, his early poems won multiple awards, and by the time Into the Heart of Borneo was written, he was widely renowned. Like O'Hanlon, he is an adept comic writer, but he is also a series student of theater and song. Fenton is described as witty and a prankster.
