Who is Iago from Tales from Shakespeare and what is their importance?

Othello's ensign, Iago, is described as a young, impetuous, and treacherous man. Angered that Othello would pass him up for a promotion, he plots to get even with him regardless of the cost. Iago is the antagonist in the play, Othello.
