Horon-ko is the great ancestor of the men who protect the stone city. He traveled to the lost city of Nan Madol to die because his home was gone. He was born in Katua Peidi, the city where the builders of Nan Madol lived, and he is buried with a diary that explains the crystal's history and effect on his tribe. When Jack saves the earth by acting as a GPS signal for the destruction of the crystal, time warps to the extent that he is actually able to have a conversation with Horon-ko. Through this conversation, Jack comes to realize that he is the messenger referred to in Horon-ko's diary.
