Henrik Ibsen was born on in Skien, Norway in 1928. He was the oldest of five children born into a poverty stricken family. After Ibsen attended university, he lived in Rome, Dresden and Munich. His plays address social issues and the concept of personal freedom. Ibsen died in 1906, survived by his sons, Hans and Sigurd.
