Heloise d'Argenteuil (1101-1164) forced into a nunnery in medieval France. She resented being sent to the nunnery, but later became a well-known writer, who eventually became the Abbess of the Abbey at Paraclete. Heloise was renowned for her fluency in Latin, Greek and Hebrew.

Abelard's letters explain his seduction of Heloise, as well as their illicit union. Their relationship continued through their marriage and the birth of their child, Astrolabe. Heloise was eventually placed in the convent at Argenteuil, from which, Heloise wrote Abelard of her resentment, and the fact that she did not join the convent for the right reasons. In her letters. Heloise expresses a profound love for Abelard and intense suffering at his trials. She was angry, however, that his love for her was not genuine..... merely desire.

Over time, Heloise became Prioress and then Abbess at the Oratory of the Paraclete. Upo Abelard's death, she petitioned Peter the Venerable to have his body furtively transferred to her so that he might be buried at Paraclete, his original hermitage. She also asked that absolve him of sin, a request that Peter obliged.
