Who is Hanna's Father from Floating in My Mother's Palm: A Novel and what is their importance?

Hanna's father is described as a kind, gentle man, who is far older than his young, impetuous wife. Hanna's father is a dentist, He is well respected in town, and an extension of this respect is afforded to his wife and child. Deeply cautious, he often warns his wife to be more careful. Ironically, he also finds amusement in her actions. After his wife's death, Hanna's father grieves, but he quickly finds another woman to make his wife.
