Gurdana Kahn, also known as Alexander Campbell Gardner, is originally from Wisconsin and is head of the palace guard at Lehore. Gardner has participated in many battles and has suffered numerous injuries. As a palace guard, he wears the uniform of his British regiment, the 79th Highlanders. When Flashman first encounters Gurdana Kahn, he believes the man is a would-be assassin. Instead, Gurdana Kahn saves Flashman on more than one occasion. Despite his American origins, Gurdana Kahn is wholeheartedly devoted to the protection of the Punjabi royal family.
