Gregor Samsa is the main character in the story, The Metamorphosis. Gregor wakes up one morning to discover he's been turned into an insect. Once a traveling salesman, he hated his job but tohad to work support his family and pay his father's debts. He loses his job after his boss comes to check on his absence and struggles with the guilt caused by his inability to support the family.

As a result, Gregor's family must gets jobs and pull their own weight. Unfortunately, Gregor becomes a burden, who is kept locked away in his room. Gregor's character serves a metaphor for the human oppression caused by capitalism.
