Who is Grandio. from Waiting for Normal and what is their importance?

Grandio is Addie's paternal grandfather. He is described as a gruff old man, who loves his granddaughter, but hates her mother. Addie doesn't get to see much of her grandfather because of the animosity between him and her mother. None-the-less, when Addie needs him, Grandio comes through.
