Gotha and Gordo Branlin were Zephyr's local bullies. They enjoyed picking on younger boys, which meant that Cory and his friends were prime targets. One day, the boys were playing baseball and the Branlins attacked Cory and his friends without mercy. One of the boys suffered a concussion, and as a result, one of the boys learned to box from a book. The boy later Subsequently, Gotha learned an important lesson and never attacked the boys. He straightened out his life and became a decent citizen. Gordo, on the other hand, never learned his lesson and later died in a holdup when he was shot by the owner of the convenience store he was attempting to rob.
