Gitoko is described as a handsome, large man, who was born deaf and dumb. He made money running errands and lived with his mother. During World War II, Gitoko started running home to see if his mother was okay, as he was worried about the English soldiers. When a soldier yelled at him to halt, he couldn't hear him and was shot dead. When his mother sees Mugo, she believes her son has come back to her.
