Who is Gilbert from Child of the Owl: Golden Mountain Chronicles: 1965 and what is their importance?

Mr. Jeh's great nephew, Gilbert, has greasy pomaded hair and drives a purple Cadillac. He is wealthy but inexplicably so. When Paw-Paw's necklace disappears, Gilbert is the first suspect. We later learn that Gilbert is not the thief.
