George Lin is another member of Harry's team. When the tsunami first hits, George falls over the edge of the iceberg and is rescued by Brian and Roger. However, this act does not change George's feelings about Brian. George believes that Brian is part of some government conspiracy to spy on the scientific mission. Not only this, but George believes that Brian's family is full of communists who are out to hurt people. Later the reader learns that George saw his mother, sister, and grandparents killed by communist soldiers in his native China. Afterward, George was forced to hide in a fireplace for several days until his father came home and found him. George is damaged by this experience, but he is a kind, gentle man beneath his fears and prejudices.
