Who is Frederick Douglass from Reconstruction: America's Unfinished Revolution, 1863-1877 and what is their importance?

Former slave, Frederick Douglass, became an effective abolitionist who wrote and spoke widely against slavery. He was a mainstay on the lecture circuit, as well as a man who commanded the deep respect of those who heard him.
