Freddy is a heavy drinker, who spends the majority of his time in Mahoney's. Once a police detective, Freddy taught Milo how to follow a suspect without being seen. When Nickie hires Milo to follow a friend's mistress, he puts Freddy on the case. Freddy does a superb job, and he also instructs Milo on carrying a concealed weapon. When Milo is mugged, he kills one of his attackers with that weapon.
