Juan Rivera, also known as Freckle, is a dwarf and the unofficial mascot of Madame Chuchupe's brothel. He is also Chuchupe's lover. Captain Pantoja puts Freckle in charge of ensuring that the prostitutes of the Special Service remain on task, as it were, and that the women are kept away from the soldiers before and after services are rendered.
