Elspeth, who is Heir to the Throne, is a mere six-years-old when the novel begins. She is described as being chestnut haired, blue eyed, precocious child, and most people considered her a brat. Heavily influenced by Hulda, a foreign spy, Elspeth becomes a person who would never be Chosen to be a Herald. Thankfully, Talia shows up, and her influence helps to make Elspeth the good person she really is.
