This character is a twenty-year-old student at St. Stephen's College, which is part of Cambridge University. Elena is murdered early one morning after she goes out for her regular run. Elena's father is an esteemed history professor at Cambridge. She has a strained relationship with her father. Elena's relationship with her step-mother Justine is tense even under the best of circumstances. Elena was born deaf. Elena's parents Anthony and Glyn did all they could to normalize the young woman. Elena could read lips and speak. She rarely used sign language to communicate with others. Elena Weaver was bright but her performance at St. Stephen's suffered because of her inability to adjust to college life. She was a passionate runner and a member of Cambridge's Hare and Hounds running club.
