Edgar is Adeline's second oldest brother and is described as self-centered. Edgar travels to America to study medicine. Jealous of her quick mind, Edgar distances himself from his sister, even going so far as to claim he doesn't know her. Later in life, Edgar calls on Adeline, hoping she will help him establish himself in California. Adeline, however, heeding her father's advice, doesn't answer his request.
