Dr. Samuel Johnson was one of Shakespeare's critics during the 19th century. He found Shakespeare's characters appalling in their nasty and immoral behavior. John was also offended that Bertram, in the play, All's Well That Ends Well, ends up happily married with a child, espaecially after his character's despicable behavior towards Helena, his eventual wife.
