Dr. Mohammed Mossadegh was Shazdah's nephew and good friend. He was the only son of Shazdah's beloved sister Najmeh-Saltaneh, and when Shazdeh was ordered to return to Tehran, Mossadegh replaced him as governor of the region. Mossadegh later represented the Nationalist Front party as prime minister. He is described as a frail, elderly man, who conducted meetings in his pajamas. He was dramatic, passionate, and widely ridiculed in the international press. Regardless, Mossadegh was also seen as Iran's best hope for an independent government. After the U.S. brought the Shah back to rule Iran, however, Mossadegh was imprisoned, tortured, and placed under house arrest. He eventually died of complications from injuries he suffered in prison.
