Demencio is a Grange resident who owns a fiberglass Madonna. He adds a hydraulic pump to the statue to make it appear as though the figure weeps. Demencio makes money from pilgrims who come to see the Madonna and the sale of associated T-shirts and refreshments. When JoLayne asks Demencio to babysit her turtles, Demencio gets the bright idea to paint them and add them to the shrine. Along with the daily appearance of Sinclair at the shrine, this brings Demencio twice as much money.
