Del is a narcotics officer. Sadly, he often indulges in the same drugs he confiscates on the streets. Del and Lucas partner at the beginning of the novel to take down the pimp who wounded one of Lucas's snitches. During this meeting, Del tells Lucas that someone murdered his cousin, Stephanie Bekker, and that he thinks her husband had something to do with it. Lucas promises to look into it further, and he is later officially assigned to the case. Del helps Lucas with the investigation by getting involved with a nurse who formerly was one of Bekker's lovers. Ironically, this relationship blossoms into a real relationship, and Del's new love helps him escape the darkness of his drug addiction.
